Expert Review

4.4/5
The Tiguan R-Line is Volkswagen's flagship SUV for buyers who want German engineering with a sporty flair — the one that proves you don't need a luxury badge to get a premium European SUV experience. Launched in April 2025 at an introductory price of ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom) , on-road figures now start around ₹51-56 lakh depending on your city . It's a CBU import — which explains the price tag that makes the Creta look like a bargain-bin special. Who should buy it? Driving enthusiasts who want a premium European SUV without the luxury badge tax. Buyers who prioritise build quality and driving dynamics over features. Anyone who thinks the Kodiaq is too expensive and the X1 is too small. What will bug you? The price — at ₹51-56 lakh on-road, you could buy a fully-loaded Creta and a Thar and still have change. The CBU import means limited numbers and eye-watering service costs. The no ventilated seats at this price is inexcusable . The no keyless entry feels like a cost-cut too far .

There have been some niggles. I've noticed a few interior squeaks and rattles developing after 5,000 km.

The 12.58 kmpl ARAI mileage is achievable on the highway. It's a very practical performance SUV.

The ground clearance of 176 mm is adequate for city roads, but you have to be careful on steep speed breakers.

I took delivery of the Tiguan R-Line last week. It's a dream come true. The 201 bhp engine is just so responsive.

Considering the price, the interior could have had more soft-touch materials. Some lower plastics feel a bit hard.
