In 1995, Wang Chuanfu was a young chemist working at a state-owned research institute in Beijing. He noticed that Japanese companies dominated the rechargeable battery market, but they were expensive and slow. Wang thought China could do it cheaper and faster . He moved to Shenzhen with his cousin and borrowed money from family. Twenty people. A small factory. That was the start of BYD . The name came from the street where the first factory was located.
