Horch was an engineer who had worked with Karl Benz before deciding to build his own machines. He called the company Horch, his own name, because that was what German engineers did . By 1909, Horch had a problem. His board fired him. Disagreements over strategy. Ego. Money. The usual reasons. Horch walked away from the company that carried his name . But he was not done building cars. He started a new company, right next door to the old one. The problem was the name. The old company still owned the rights to Horch. He could not use it.
