A company that built airplanes, then almost died making cars, then decided to make the world's best sports sedans. A grille that looks like kidneys. A slogan that means "Sheer Driving Pleasure." That is where BMW begins . The story starts in 1916, in Munich, Germany. But the name was not BMW yet. It was called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, a company building aircraft for a war that was already tearing Europe apart . In 1917, another company, Rapp Motorenwerke, changed its name to Bayerische Motoren Werke. BMW. The logo came from that moment. A circle with the Bavarian flag colors, blue and white.
