The Golf GTI is Volkswagen's legendary hot hatch for enthusiasts who've been waiting 50 years for the brand to finally bring it to India — the one that proves you can have hatchback practicality with a genuine sports car soul. The Mk8.5 landed in 2025 at ₹50.91 lakh (ex-showroom), with on-road figures stretching from ₹57-65 lakh depending on your city. It's a CBU import with limited numbers — the first batch of 150 units sold out before pricing was even announced, and a second batch of 100 units is expected in Q3 2026. At this price, it sits squarely between the Mini Cooper S (₹44.90-55.90 lakh) and the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S (₹94.80 lakh)— offering a sweet spot for enthusiasts who want performance without the AMG tax. Who should buy it? Driving enthusiasts who've been waiting for a proper hot hatch. Buyers who want performance without the AMG price tag. Anyone who thinks the Mini Cooper S is too quirky and the Octavia vRS is too practical.

The engine noise is too noticeable for my liking. I expected a quieter ride. It handles well and feels planted, but the rear seat legroom is minimal and the boot space is limited. Feels a bit dated.

I love this car. The performance is addictive and it just eats up the miles. The engine is refined and the build quality is solid. It's a true hot hatch that puts a smile on your face every time you drive it.

This is hands down the worst car I've ever owned. Constant electrical gremlins, warning lights, and the dealer couldn't fix the issues. Poor value for money and the interior feels cheap. I'm selling it.

The DSG is incredibly smooth and the car handles like it's on rails. It's a driver's car through and through. Very comfortable for long journeys and the cabin is well-insulated from road noise.

It's a great car to drive, but the interior plastics feel cheap for the price. The infotainment system can be laggy and the haptic controls are frustrating. Also, getting in and out can be a challenge.
