The Land Cruiser 300 is Toyota's flagship SUV for buyers who want to survive the apocalypse in leather-clad comfort — the one that's been the vehicle of choice for warlords, oil tycoons, and Indian politicians since 1951. Priced from ₹2.18 crore to ₹2.25 crore (ex-showroom), on-road figures start around ₹2.58 crore for the ZX and stretch past ₹2.90 crore for the GR-S. It's a CBU import, which explains the price tag that makes the Fortuner look like a bargain-bin special. Who should buy it? Industrialists who need to traverse mountain passes and political rallies in the same week. Overlanding enthusiasts who actually use the hardware. Anyone who thinks the GLS is too soft and the Range Rover is too delicate. What will bug you? The price — you could buy a GLS and a Defender for the same money. The 5-seater configuration only in India — no third row for your entourage. The infotainment feels dated compared to the Germans.

The bonnet feels too heavy and affects ground clearance perception.

The price is simply not justifiable for a 5-seater SUV when rivals offer more features.

The 309 hp engine is powerful but the fuel efficiency is a letdown for daily driving.

The car lacks glamour. It's function over form, which may not appeal to everyone.
