The Innova Hycross is Toyota's monocoque MPV for buyers who want the Innova badge without the truck-like chassis — the one that finally answers the question: "What if we made India's favourite taxi actually comfortable?" Priced from ₹18.86 lakh to ₹30.83 lakh (ex-showroom), on-road figures start around ₹21.70 lakh for the base petrol and stretch past ₹37 lakh for the top-spec hybrid. It's the MPV that single-handedly made the Crysta feel like a relic from the Obama administration. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre TNGA petrol producing 170 bhp with a CVT, or the 5th-gen strong hybrid producing 186.4 bhp with an e-CVT. The hybrid is the one to have — that 23.24 kmpl ARAI mileage translates to a real-world 18-20 kmpl, which is genuinely impressive for a 7-seater. The 0-100 km/h takes 10.69 seconds — adequate, not exciting. Who should buy it? Large families who want a comfortable, fuel-efficient 7/8-seater without the MPV stigma. Fleet operators who do the math on running costs. Chauffeur-driven executives who want to arrive looking like they run the company — because they probably do. What will bug you? The e-CVT makes the engine drone under hard acceleration. The 52-litre fuel tank limits highway range. The E20 fuel controversy is real — owners report engine vibrations, knocking, and breakdowns at around 12,000 km, with Toyota denying warranty claims citing fuel contamination.

The refinement of the strong hybrid system is its best feature. It's so quiet at city speeds.

Memory seats, dual-zone AC, and JBL speakers are top-notch. The hybrid mode is pin-drop silent.

The e-CVT gearbox is very smooth. No jerks at all.
