The Tata Tiago remains one of the better all-round hatchbacks for buyers who want a solid, practical car without spending SUV money. It has a compact footprint, a 2,400 mm wheelbase and 242-litre boot, while the suspension does a good job dealing with broken city roads. The cabin is not the fanciest anymore, but it feels reasonably spacious for a small hatchback.
The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine produces around 86 PS and 113 Nm, with a 5-speed manual or AMT. There is also a CNG version, which makes 73.4 PS and 95 Nm in CNG mode. The petrol engine is adequate for daily driving and the Tiago feels easy to place in traffic, while the CNG version makes more sense if running costs are your biggest concern.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants a practical, affordable hatchback with decent space, good ride quality and a CNG option.
What will bug you? The three-cylinder engine gets noisy under hard acceleration, the AMT can feel slow and the cabin lacks the premium feel of newer rivals.
