The Kylaq is Skoda's first sub-4m SUV — built in India, for India, on the MQB-A0-IN platform. It's the brand's most affordable entry yet, priced from ₹7.59 lakh to ₹12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Sportline variant sits between Signature+ and Prestige, priced at ₹11.32 lakh (manual) and ₹12.32 lakh (automatic).
The cabin is where the compromises show. The 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and six airbags as standard are genuinely impressive, and the 446-litre boot is segment-leading. But the dashboard is dominated by hard plastics, the reversing camera is grainy, and there's no 360-degree camera, no panoramic sunroof, no diesel, and no CNG. The rear seat is tight for three adults — the XUV 3XO and Nexon offer more space. The Kylaq is a driver's car in a segment where buyers want family cars.
Who should buy it? Driving enthusiasts on a budget who value European dynamics and safety over features and fuel economy. First-time buyers who want a solid, well-built SUV without the German price tag. Singles or couples who don't need to ferry three adults in the back.
What will bug you? The turbo lag in city traffic, the abysmal city fuel economy, the hard plastic interior that feels a class below the competition, the grainy reverse camera, and the lack of engine options — rivals offer diesel, CNG, and more powerful petrols.
