Expert Review

4.54/5
The Porsche Cayenne is proof that a large luxury SUV does not have to drive like a large luxury SUV. It combines a premium, well-built cabin with sharp handling and strong performance, making it one of the more engaging SUVs in its class. The driving position is excellent, and the cabin feels properly premium without becoming overly complicated. The turbo-petrol engines deliver strong performance, while the automatic gearbox responds quickly and smoothly. Despite its size and weight, the Cayenne feels surprisingly agile through corners, and the suspension does a good job of balancing comfort with sporty handling. Rear-seat space is good for a family, while the boot is practical enough for luggage. The low-ish stance and large wheels, however, mean Indian speed breakers still need careful negotiation. Who should buy it? Someone who wants a luxury SUV that is comfortable enough for daily use but genuinely fun to drive. What will bug you? The high purchase price, expensive options, maintenance costs, fuel bills and low ground clearance can make ownership painful.

The Cayenne is the best-handling SUV in the world. Period. It corners flat, responds instantly, and makes you feel like a better driver.

Porsche ownership in India is expensive but worth it. The service network is limited, but the experience is premium. My dealer in Mumbai has been excellent.

The rear middle seat is practically useless. The transmission tunnel eats into legroom. It's a 4-seater, not a 5-seater.

The adaptive air suspension is magic. It soaks up potholes and rough roads effortlessly. The cabin remains quiet and composed.

The fuel economy is painful. The V8 drinks fuel like it's going out of style. Expect single-digit mileage in city traffic.
