The MG Astor is a comfortable midsize SUV aimed at buyers who want a feature-rich cabin without spending luxury-SUV money. Its design is still quite attractive, while the interior feels more premium than many rivals. The seats are comfortable, the dashboard has a good amount of technology, and the compact dimensions make it manageable in city traffic.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine is smooth and works well for relaxed city driving, while the automatic option makes daily commuting easier. There is also a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol version with stronger performance. Ride quality is one of the Astor's better qualities, although the naturally aspirated engine can feel slow during highway overtakes, especially with a full load. Rear-seat space is decent for two adults, but three can feel tight.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants a comfortable, premium-feeling SUV with lots of features and relaxed city manners.
What will bug you? Performance is not exciting, the cabin can feel dated compared with newer rivals, and fuel efficiency is not its strongest point.
