The Mercedes-Benz GLC sits in the sweet spot of the Mercedes SUV range, offering more space and comfort than the GLA without becoming as massive as the GLE. It has a premium cabin, excellent seats and a quiet, refined driving experience. The design is also understated enough for daily use, but still carries the road presence expected from a luxury SUV.
The turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance feels smooth and powerful enough for both city traffic and highway cruising. The automatic gearbox is relaxed, while the suspension does a good job of keeping passengers comfortable. Rear-seat space is good for two adults, although three can feel tight on longer journeys. The boot is practical for a family, but the low-ish stance means sharp Indian speed breakers still need some respect.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants a comfortable luxury SUV for daily driving, highway trips and family use without going for something excessively large.
What will bug you? Expensive maintenance, premium fuel costs, limited three-adult rear-seat comfort and the occasional rough-road clearance worry.
