The Mercedes-Benz GLA is the entry point to Mercedes SUV ownership, but it does not feel like a cheap version of the bigger models. Its compact size makes it much easier to use in Indian cities, while the premium cabin, comfortable seats and modern design give it the luxury feel buyers expect. It also has enough road presence without becoming a headache in tight parking spaces. The turbo-petrol engine feels refined and offers enough performance for both city driving and highways. The automatic gearbox keeps things relaxed, while the suspension handles most broken roads reasonably well. Rear-seat space is acceptable for a compact luxury SUV, although three adults will not be particularly happy on longer trips. Boot space is useful for a small family, but the low stance means you still need to be careful with sharp speed breakers. Who should buy it? Someone who wants a compact luxury SUV that is easy to drive daily and carries the Mercedes badge. What will bug you? Rear space, expensive servicing, low ground clearance and the premium price can make you question the value.

The GLA 200 is a great car, but it's not perfect. The 1.3-litre engine, while refined, feels a bit underpowered for the car's weight. The ride is also a bit stiff, and you feel every pothole. However, the handling is sharp, and the car feels planted on the highway. The interior quality is excellent, and the badge carries undeniable prestige.

The GLA 220d is a brilliant car. The diesel engine is powerful, and the 8-speed DCT is smooth and responsive. The ground clearance of 183mm is perfect for Indian roads. The interior quality is top-notch, and the panoramic sunroof adds to the premium feel. It's a car that makes you look forward to driving.

I've driven 15,000 km in my GLA, and it's been a smooth experience. The car handles beautifully, and the engine is responsive. The 360-degree camera is a lifesaver in tight spots. The rear seat is a bit tight for three adults, but for a small family, it's perfect. The lack of ventilated seats is a miss in our summer.

The GLA is the perfect entry point into the luxury SUV segment. It's compact enough for city driving but feels spacious enough for a small family. The cabin is a lovely place to be—the ambient lighting, the large touchscreen, and the quality of materials are all excellent. I just wish it had ventilated seats.

Road and wind noise insulation could be better. For a Mercedes, I expected a quieter cabin at highway speeds.
