Expert Review

4.52/5
The Mercedes-AMG C-Class takes the sensible C-Class formula and adds a serious dose of performance. It keeps the premium cabin, comfortable seating and everyday usability, but underneath it gets a much more aggressive powertrain and chassis setup. It is still usable as a daily car, just one that happens to be capable of moving very quickly when you ask nicely. The AMG C 43 uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with mild-hybrid assistance, while the more serious C 63 S E Performance combines a 2.0-litre turbo engine with an electric motor for huge performance. All-wheel drive helps put the power down, and the steering and suspension feel considerably sharper than the standard C-Class. The trade-off is a firmer ride on broken Indian roads. Who should buy it? Enthusiasts who want AMG performance without giving up the comfort and practicality of a compact luxury sedan. What will bug you? Ground clearance needs attention, the ride can be firm, rear-seat space is only average and maintenance, tyres and insurance are expensive.

This is my therapy – the V8 soundtrack, the brutal acceleration, the razor-sharp handling. I drive aimlessly just to hear the exhaust crackle. The interior feels special every time I open the door. Ground clearance issues? Who cares. This car is a legend.

The drift mode is terrifyingly fun – I tried it on a closed track and the car oversteers so predictably. The rear-axle LSD works wonders. The interior quality with the carbon fibre and Nappa leather is top-tier. Only missing ADAS Level-2 – for this price, I expected adaptive cruise.

Daily commuter in Noida – the car is surprisingly docile in Comfort mode; the suspension settles down and the gearbox shifts early. But the fuel efficiency is 5-6 kmpl, so my monthly fuel bill is sky-high. The sound system is great, but the real music comes from the exhaust.

The interior ambient lighting with 64 colours and the AMG-specific digital gauges make you feel like a racing driver. The flat-bottom steering wheel is perfect. The only missing piece is ventilated seats – I sweat in the Chennai heat even with the AC on full blast.

The V8 soundtrack is worth every rupee. The active exhaust valves change tone from a deep rumble to a shrieking howl. I drive it through the Lonavala ghats every weekend and the handling is sharp – the rear-axle limited-slip differential is magical. Pure driving joy.
