The Maserati MC20 is the car that brought Maserati back into the serious supercar conversation. Its mid-engine layout, dramatic styling and butterfly doors give it plenty of theatre, but underneath the drama is a properly engineered performance machine. Unlike many modern supercars, it also feels relatively clean and elegant rather than overloaded with sharp lines and fake aggression.
The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 produces around 630 hp and sends power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Acceleration is brutally quick, while the lightweight carbon-fibre structure helps the MC20 feel agile through corners. The steering is sharp and the chassis feels properly focused, although the ride is still usable enough for normal roads.
Who should buy it? Buyers who want a genuine Italian supercar with serious performance, distinctive design and something different from Ferrari or Lamborghini.
What will bug you? Ground clearance is a constant concern, cabin space is limited, luggage capacity is tiny and fuel, tyres and maintenance are extremely expensive.
