Expert Review

4.2/5
The Maserati Levante is the SUV for buyers who want Italian drama instead of the usual German formula. It combines the high seating position and practicality of a luxury SUV with Maserati's sporty character and unmistakable styling. It is larger and more imposing than the Grecale, with enough cabin space for family use and a comfortable highway presence. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 versions offer strong performance, while the more powerful V8 variants turn the Levante into a genuinely quick SUV. The steering feels more engaging than what you get in many luxury SUVs, and the ride is reasonably comfortable on smooth roads. However, its size and low-slung design can become frustrating on narrow Indian roads and poorly designed speed breakers. Who should buy it? Buyers who want a performance-oriented luxury SUV with Italian character and do not want another predictable German badge. What will bug you? Fuel consumption can be painful, maintenance is expensive, rear-seat space is good but not exceptional, and finding the right service support may require planning.

The Levante is expensive to maintain, but it's a Maserati – you expect that.

The fuel economy is painful, but the sheer joy of driving makes up for it.

The Ferrari-developed V6 is a masterpiece. The sound above 4,000 rpm is addictive.

It's not the most practical SUV, but who cares? The driving experience is worth the compromises.

The interior is a work of art. The leather, the stitching, the detailing – pure Italian craftsmanship.
