The Maruti S-Presso is a small city car that tries to give you an SUV-like driving position without the SUV-sized problems. Its tall design, compact dimensions and high seating position make it particularly useful in crowded Indian cities. It is easy to park, easy to manoeuvre and relatively inexpensive to run.
The 1.0-litre petrol engine is adequate for everyday commuting, while the CNG version is better suited to buyers covering high kilometres. The manual is simple to drive, and the AMT makes stop-go traffic less tiring. The tall body gives good visibility, although the lightweight construction and short wheelbase mean it does not feel as planted as a larger hatchback on highways.
Who should buy it? First-time buyers and city commuters who want a compact, economical car with an easy driving position.
What will bug you? The cabin feels basic, rear-seat space is limited, highway stability is average and the engine needs some patience when the car is fully loaded.
