The Maruti Ignis is one of the quirkiest small cars on Indian roads. Its tall, boxy shape gives it a slightly SUV-like appearance, while its compact dimensions make it excellent for crowded streets and tight parking spaces. The cabin is surprisingly roomy for its size, although the design is more funky than premium.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine is smooth and reasonably energetic for city driving. The manual is easy to use, while the AMT is useful in heavy traffic. Its light steering and small turning radius make it very easy to manoeuvre. The raised seating position is helpful, but the short wheelbase and compact size mean highway driving can feel less planted than in a larger hatchback.
Who should buy it? City users and small families who want an easy-to-drive, efficient car with a unique personality.
What will bug you? Rear-seat space is only average, boot space is limited, highway stability is not its strongest point and the cabin can feel basic.
