The Maruti Ciaz is an old-school family sedan that still gets the important things right. Its biggest strengths are a spacious cabin, comfortable rear seat, large boot and relatively affordable ownership. The design may look a little dated now, but the Ciaz still has enough presence to work as a sensible family car.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine is smooth and relaxed, making it suitable for daily commuting and highway cruising. It is not particularly quick, but the Ciaz feels comfortable at normal speeds. The suspension handles broken Indian roads reasonably well, and the generous rear-seat space makes long journeys comfortable for passengers.
Who should buy it? Families who want a spacious, comfortable sedan with predictable maintenance and easy ownership.
What will bug you? The engine feels underpowered when fully loaded, the interior and feature package are showing their age, and SUVs offer better ground clearance and a higher driving position.
