The Defender 90 is the short-wheelbase, three-door version of Land Rover's reborn icon — the one for buyers who want the full off-road capability but don't need to ferry a cricket team. At ₹1.42-1.77 crore on-road, it's significantly pricier than the five-door 110, thanks to CBU import duties. You're paying a premium for the aesthetic and the tighter turning radius. The Defender 90's real competition is itself — the 110 offers more space for barely more money, making the 90 a hard sell for anyone who actually needs practicality. Other rivals include the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (if you have another ₹2 crore lying around) and the Jeep Wrangler (if you want similar capability at half the price). The Toyota Fortuner Legender is also in the conversation at a fraction of the cost. Who should buy it? Off-road purists who value the 90's agility on tight trails. Singles or couples who want the Defender badge without the bus-like proportions of the 110. Anyone who's ever said "I don't need rear doors" and meant it. What will bug you? The boot space is a cramped 297 litres — less than a hatchback. The rear seats are a squeeze for adults, and getting in and out requires contortionist-level flexibility. The running costs will make your accountant weep.
