The Jeep Meridian is the three-row family SUV for buyers who need seating for seven but refuse to drive a boring people-mover like an Innova. It offers the rugged Jeep character and a commanding road presence, but with the practicality of an extra row of seats. It is for the large Indian family that wants a premium badge and genuine highway comfort.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine is smooth, torquey, and perfectly suited for highway cruising, mated to a slick automatic gearbox. The ride quality is absorbent and well-damped, soaking up long highway miles with minimal fatigue. The front and middle-row seats are extremely comfortable, offering excellent under-thigh support. The steering is well-weighted, and the high seating position gives you a panoramic view of the road, making highway overtakes confident and stress-free.
Who should buy it? Large joint families who frequently travel with extended family, buyers who need a 7-seater but want something more upmarket and stylish than a Toyota Innova.
What will bug you? The third row is strictly for children or short trips—adults will find it cramped. The boot space with all three rows up is laughably small, barely fitting a few duffel bags. The interior feels a step down from the Compass in terms of premium materials, and the price tag puts it in the vicinity of more established 7-seater options.
