Expert Review

3.86/5
The suspension is the Basalt's biggest strength, soaking up potholes and broken surfaces with confidence. The petrol engines are adequate for daily driving, and the cabin offers decent space for a small family. It is also relatively easy to drive in the city. What will bug you? The interior feels less premium than some rivals, and the feature list is not its strongest selling point. Rear headroom is decent, but the sloping roof limits practicality compared with a conventional SUV. Citroën's smaller service network can also be a concern. Who should buy it? Someone who wants distinctive styling, a comfortable ride and an affordable family SUV.

The rear is stylish and the boot is huge, but headroom could be better.

I like Basalt, but the rear roofline makes it less practical than it looks.

Nice design, but comfort should always win over styling.

Rear headroom could be the deal breaker for some families.
