The BMW XM is BMW's answer to a question nobody really asked, but plenty of wealthy enthusiasts will enjoy. It combines the size and practicality of a luxury SUV with the performance of an M car and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The twin-turbo V8 and electric motor deliver enormous power, making the XM brutally quick despite its weight. The cabin is luxurious and spacious, while the high driving position gives it strong road presence. For Indian highways, the performance is frankly excessive, but that is part of the appeal.
What will bug you? The XM is huge and very heavy, so tight Indian roads and parking spaces can be frustrating. The ride can feel firm, and its weight becomes obvious when pushing hard. Running costs, tyres and maintenance will also hurt.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants supercar-level performance in a large, luxurious SUV and does not care about subtlety.

The cabin is a masterpiece, but the suspension is too harsh for daily driving on broken roads. Not the best for family use.
My car had a minor issue with the charging port. After sales support was decent but not what I expected at this price point.
Very fast and luxurious, but the weight is very noticeable in corners. It doesn't feel as agile as the X5.
The performance is top-tier, but I have faced some glitches with the hybrid system software. Dealer updates helped a bit.
It's a brilliant machine, but the exterior design takes time to get used to. Also, rear visibility is not great.
