When Brezza was launched for the first time, back in 2016, India’s compact SUV segment was a very different place. The Ford EcoSport was the king of the hill, and most people thought a "strong, safe, and stylish Maruti SUV" was a bit of a dream. But Maruti Suzuki, being Maruti Suzuki, decided to crash the party anyway.
The original Brezza was an instant success. It looked muscular, sat high on the road, and came with a diesel engine that felt like it would outlive your grandchildren. For years, it simply refused to go out of style. Then came the big shift – the diesel ban in Delhi NCR, changing customer preferences, and the slow sunset of oil-burners everywhere. Maruti looked at the situation, probably drank a few extra cups of chai, and said, "Kuch naya karte hain."
How Maruti Decided to Completely Revamp for the 2nd Gen
By 2022, the writing was on the wall. The first-gen Brezza, for all its charm, was starting to feel like your favorite pair of old jeans – comfortable, but not exactly date-night material. Maruti didn't just want to polish the headlights and call it a day. Oh no. They went back to the drawing board and decided to completely revamp the car for the 2nd generation.
And kya badlaav aaya (what a change it was)! The 2022 Brezza dropped the diesel engine entirely.
Maruti introduced a 1.5-litre K15C Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine with an optional mild-hybrid system. They also finally added a 6-speed automatic torque converter (goodbye, irritating AMT jerks!). Suddenly, the Brezza was smoother, quieter, and more city-friendly. Safety also got a major boost, with six airbags becoming standard across many variants. It was no longer just a strong, reliable SUV; it was a genuinely smart one.

And Now… 2nd Gen Facelift is Coming (A.K.A. New Brezza 2026)
Just when you thought the Brezza was settled into a happy married life, Maruti has decided to give it a fresh workout and a new wardrobe. Yes, the 2nd gen facelift is coming, and spy shots are popping up.
Word on the street (and by street, we mean Instagram reels and auto forums) is that the New Brezza 2026 will launch around mid-2026, likely May or July. Maruti is taking their sweet time because, you know, jaldi ka kaam shaitan ka (haste makes waste). But when it arrives, it will be aimed directly at people who walk into a showroom with a budget of ₹8–14 lakh and say, "Bhaisahab, gaadi pakki hai, bas ek baar dilaase ke liye dikha do."
What’s New? (The Good, The Better, and The "Finally!")
Let’s be honest. You don’t need a car that flies. You need one that starts every morning, doesn't drink petrol like it's free, and keeps your family safe. Here is what the 2026 Brezza promises:
Mileage (Petrol): Expect around 18–20 km/l for the manual and 19–21 km/l for the automatic. The mild-hybrid system will do its silent magic in traffic. Thoda paisa bach jayega (a little money will be saved), which you can spend on extra cheese on your pizza.
Mileage (CNG): The factory CNG version will likely return 26–28 km/kg. Perfect if you plan to drive from Delhi to Jaipur and back on a single ghar ka khana packet.
Safety Rating: The outgoing Brezza scored 4 stars in Global NCAP. Maruti isn't going to mess with a winning formula. Expect a 4-star safety rating again, with six airbags, ESP, and a 360-degree camera now on top variants.
Why Should You Buy This Over Others?
Look, the Hyundai Venue has more screens than an airport lounge. The Kia Sonet has more lights than a Diwali exhibition. The Tata Nexon has enough variant names to confuse a PhD scholar. But the Brezza? The Brezza is the sensible friend who shows up on time, doesn't borrow money, and helps you move your fridge.
It has a proper 6-speed automatic (torque converter), not a jerky robot pretending to be a human driver.
It’s a Maruti – which means service centers are everywhere, even in that one village where Google Maps gives up.
Resale value? Zabardast. You could drive it for 5 years, and some uncle will still pay you 80% of the price because "Maruti hai bhai, kharab nahi hoti" (It's a Maruti, it doesn't break).
Should You Wait or Buy the Current One?
If you see a good discount on the 2025 Brezza today, and you need a car kal subah (tomorrow morning), go ahead. The current car is excellent. But if you can wait for a few weeks then Ruko bhai. The 2026 facelift will bring a larger 10.25-inch screen, ventilated seats (your back will thank you during summer), and a 6-speed manual gearbox for highway lovers.
