The BMW Z4 is a sports car for buyers who want open-top driving fun without going full supercar. In India, its compact size, sharp handling and convertible roof make it a very different proposition from BMW's larger luxury cars.
The turbocharged petrol engine delivers strong performance, while the rear-wheel-drive setup keeps the Z4 entertaining on winding roads. The low seating position, responsive steering and retractable hardtop add to the experience. It is also relatively easy to drive in the city compared with larger performance cars.
What will bug you? Ground clearance is a constant concern on Indian roads, and the stiff ride can get uncomfortable on broken surfaces. The two-seat layout means practicality is almost nonexistent, while boot space is limited with the roof folded. Running costs are also high.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants a fun weekend car with the freedom of a convertible and does not need practicality.
