Mercedes-Benz is changing its electric car strategy, and the new GLC Electric is one of its biggest moves yet. Instead of making an electric SUV that looks and feels like a converted petrol car, Mercedes has built the GLC Electric on a dedicated EV platform with a focus on range, charging speed, space and everyday usability.

The result is a luxury electric SUV that can travel up to 713 km on a single charge, support 330 kW DC fast charging, and produce up to 483 bhp and 808 Nm in the GLC 400 4MATIC.

For Mercedes, this is more than another EV launch. The GLC Electric is expected to become one of the key models in the brand's next generation of electric cars.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: What Is New?

The GLC Electric is based on Mercedes-Benz's dedicated MB.EA platform, developed specifically for electric vehicles.

This is important because Mercedes' earlier EVs followed a different approach. The original EQC, for example, was closely related to the combustion-powered GLC. The new GLC Electric has been designed around an electric powertrain from the start.

It also brings back more familiar SUV proportions. Mercedes has moved away from some of the rounded, heavily aerodynamic styling seen on models such as the EQE SUV.

The GLC Electric still looks futuristic, but it has the shape and stance buyers expect from a premium SUV.

Up to 713 km Range

Range is one of the biggest talking points of the new GLC Electric.

The SUV gets a 94 kWh battery pack and offers up to 713 km of WLTP range, depending on the version and configuration.

That puts it firmly into the long-range luxury EV category.

For buyers who regularly travel between cities, this could be one of the GLC Electric's biggest advantages. A large battery alone is not enough for a good road-trip EV, though. Charging speed matters just as much.

Mercedes appears to have understood that part.

330 kW Fast Charging

The GLC Electric uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing it to support DC fast charging at up to 330 kW.

Mercedes claims that around 300 km of range can be added in approximately 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.

That changes how an EV road trip can work.

Instead of waiting for a long charging session every time the battery gets low, a short stop during a highway break could add a useful amount of range.

Of course, the actual charging speed will depend on the charger, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions. A 330 kW charger is also required to make full use of the car's maximum charging capability.

GLC 400 4MATIC Gets 483 bhp

Performance will not be an afterthought.

The GLC 400 4MATIC uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing up to 483 bhp and 808 Nm of torque.

That is a serious amount of power for a family-oriented luxury SUV.

The instant torque delivery of an electric motor should also make the GLC Electric feel much quicker from low speeds than its size might suggest.

For Mercedes buyers, this means they will not have to choose between long-distance range and strong performance.

A 39.1-Inch MBUX Hyperscreen

Inside, the GLC Electric gets Mercedes' latest digital cabin technology.

An optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen stretches across the dashboard, giving the cabin a large connected display area.

But Mercedes has also made an interesting change.

The company is bringing back more physical controls alongside the screens.

That could be a welcome move for drivers who have become tired of putting basic functions behind touchscreen menus. Climate control and other frequently used functions are easier to operate when you can find them without taking your eyes off the road.

Luxury cars may have more screens than ever, but sometimes a button still wins.

More Practical Than You Might Expect

The GLC Electric also focuses on everyday practicality.

It offers a 570-litre boot, while a 128-litre front trunk, or frunk, provides additional storage space.

That gives the GLC Electric useful carrying capacity for luggage, shopping and everyday family use.

The SUV format should also make it easier to live with than some of the more coupe-like electric models in Mercedes' range.

The 942-LED Front Grille

One of the most noticeable design features is the illuminated front grille.

Mercedes has used 942 individual LEDs in the grille to create a distinctive lighting signature.

It gives the GLC Electric a strong visual identity, especially at night.

The design also helps separate the electric GLC from its petrol and diesel siblings without completely abandoning the familiar GLC shape.

The GLC Electric effectively represents a new chapter compared with the older EQC.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric India Price and Launch

Mercedes-Benz is expected to bring the GLC Electric to India around late 2026.

The expected Indian price is around ₹75 lakh to ₹85 lakh ex-showroom, although the final price will depend on the variant, equipment and Mercedes-Benz's India strategy.

If launched in this range, the GLC Electric will enter a highly competitive part of the luxury EV market.

Its expected rivals include the BMW iX3, Porsche Macan EV, Audi Q6 e-tron and Volvo EX60.
