Maruti Grand Vitara Sales Cross 4 Lakh: 4,01,007 Units Sold in India

Four lakh cars is a big number. Four lakh SUVs in a market where buyers have no shortage of options is even bigger.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has crossed the 4 lakh domestic sales milestone, becoming Maruti Suzuki's latest SUV to achieve the feat. Since its launch in September 2022, the midsize SUV has recorded 4,01,007 domestic wholesale units until June 2026.

The Grand Vitara has also been exported to international markets, with 62,500 units shipped overseas during the same period.

Sold through Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa retail network, the Grand Vitara has now established itself as one of the company's most important SUVs in the midsize SUV segment.

Grand Vitara Sales Cross 4 Lakh

The Grand Vitara reached 4,01,007 domestic wholesales between September 2022 and June 2026.

In June 2026 alone, Maruti Suzuki dispatched 9,092 Grand Vitara units in India. This was slightly lower than the 9,366 units recorded in May 2026, but strong enough to take cumulative sales beyond the four lakh mark.

Grand Vitara Sales Summary

From the launch in September 2022 until June 2026, the Grand Vitara has achieved:

  • 4,01,007 domestic wholesale sales

  • 62,500 exports

  • 4,63,507 total domestic and export units

  • Sold through Nexa dealerships

  • Launched in India in September 2022

The 4 lakh domestic milestone makes the Grand Vitara one of Maruti Suzuki's strongest recent SUV launches.

Grand Vitara Was the Fastest Midsize SUV to Reach 1 Lakh, 2 Lakh and 3 Lakh Sales

The Grand Vitara's sales journey has been particularly strong during its early years.

Maruti Suzuki says the Grand Vitara was the fastest midsize SUV to cross the 1 lakh, 2 lakh and 3 lakh sales milestones.

That is important because the midsize SUV segment has become one of the most competitive parts of the Indian car market.

The Grand Vitara entered a segment already dominated by established names, including the Hyundai Creta, while also facing competition from the Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate and other SUVs.

Yet the combination of Maruti Suzuki's brand reach, the Nexa retail network, multiple powertrain choices and strong fuel efficiency helped the Grand Vitara build its customer base quickly.

FY2025 Was the Grand Vitara's Best Sales Year

FY2025 was the Grand Vitara's strongest financial year so far.

The SUV recorded 1,23,946 units in FY2025, making it the model's highest annual sales figure.

This also highlights how important the Grand Vitara has become to Maruti Suzuki's SUV portfolio.

The model contributed around 35% of Nexa's UV sales over the past four fiscals and Q1 FY2027, according to Maruti Suzuki's data.

In simple terms, the Grand Vitara has become one of the main products driving Nexa's SUV business.

Grand Vitara Sales vs Hyundai Creta

The Grand Vitara's 4 lakh milestone also provides an interesting comparison with the Hyundai Creta.

The second-generation Hyundai Creta reached the 4 lakh sales milestone in January 2024, around 25 months after its launch.

The Grand Vitara took 21 months longer to reach the same 4 lakh domestic sales mark.

That means the Grand Vitara needed around 46 months from its September 2022 launch to cross four lakh domestic sales.

However, the comparison needs some context.

The Creta has had a longer presence in the Indian midsize SUV market, while the Grand Vitara arrived as Maruti Suzuki's major entry into the segment. The Grand Vitara also shares its platform and several mechanical components with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, giving Maruti access to the hybrid-focused side of the market.

So while the Creta reached four lakh units faster, the Grand Vitara has still managed to build a sizeable customer base in a highly competitive segment.

Why Is the Grand Vitara Selling Well?

One major reason behind the Grand Vitara's success is the variety of powertrain options.

The SUV has been offered with petrol and strong-hybrid technology, giving buyers different options depending on their priorities.

The strong-hybrid version has been particularly important because it gives the Grand Vitara a fuel-efficient alternative to conventional petrol SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki also has another major advantage: its enormous sales and service network.

For buyers in smaller cities and towns, having access to a nearby Maruti workshop can be a major factor when choosing a car. Nobody wants to discover that their expensive SUV has a problem and the nearest specialist workshop is three districts away.

The Nexa network has also helped position the Grand Vitara as a more premium product than Maruti's traditional mass-market offerings.

Grand Vitara's June 2026 Sales

The Grand Vitara recorded 9,092 units in June 2026.

This was:

  • 2.9% lower than May 2026 sales of 9,366 units

  • 17.8% higher than April 2026 sales of 7,718 units

  • 34.8% higher than February 2026 sales of 5,859 units

  • 18.1% lower than November 2025, its best month in the supplied 12-month period

The June number shows that the Grand Vitara continues to maintain a fairly healthy monthly sales volume even after crossing the four lakh milestone.

What Does 4 Lakh Sales Mean for the Grand Vitara?

Crossing four lakh domestic sales puts the Grand Vitara among the most successful SUVs launched by Maruti Suzuki in recent years.

More importantly, the achievement shows that Maruti's strategy of entering the premium midsize SUV segment through Nexa has worked.

The Grand Vitara now has a sizeable installed customer base, strong brand recognition and a proven demand for its hybrid and petrol variants.

Its next challenge will be maintaining this momentum as competition becomes stronger.

The midsize SUV market is getting crowded, and buyers now expect better technology, stronger safety equipment, connected features, premium interiors and efficient powertrains.

For now, though, the numbers tell a simple story: 4,01,007 Indian buyers have already chosen the Grand Vitara.

And considering that the SUV crossed 4 lakh sales in less than four years, Maruti Suzuki has plenty of reasons to keep betting big on the Grand Vitara.
