Overview

Isuzu’s presence in India is a curious mix of heritage and niche positioning. Long before the MU-X, Isuzu engines were quietly powering some of India’s most iconic cars. The Ambassador, for instance, in its later years, borrowed Isuzu diesel engines to stay relevant, and even Hindustan Motors’ Contessa leaned on Isuzu tech. That outsourcing built Isuzu’s reputation here as an engineering company that could deliver tough, reliable diesels, even if the badge itself wa... More

ISUZU MU-X FAQs

The MU-X comes with a 1.9-litre diesel engine (Ddi), producing about 161 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. It is available with both 4x2 and 4x4 versions. The 4x4 version has a “shift-on-the-fly” dial for engaging high and low ranges, which means you can go from city roads to muddy off-road without needing to stop and crawl under the car.

The Isuzu MU-X measures about 4,825 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,860 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm. The ground clearance is a strong 230 mm unladen, giving it serious capability over speed breakers, inclines, and rough terrain.

MU-X is a 7-seater. Behind the third row, boot space is 235 litres, enough for essentials. If you fold the third row, the cargo area expands

ARAI-claimed mileage is about 13 kmpl for its diesel automatic version. Assuming diesel price ≈ ₹90 per litre (or your local rate), running cost per km = 90 ÷ 13 = ≈ ₹6.90 per km.

MU-X comes with a suite of safety goodies: six airbags, ABS + EBD, traction control, electronic stability control, hill descent control, and steel underbody protection. For comfort, it has leather upholstery, automatic climate control, one-touch split fold for rear seats, good infotainment, strong interior space. If you're going off the beaten track, comfort and safety both matter — MU-X delivers.

Buy MU-X if you want real off-road presence without paying Fortuner / Hilux prices, need 7 seats, ride beyond tarmac, strong build, and don’t mind higher ownership cost. Skip it if your drives are mostly urban and fuel economy + handling are your top priority, or if you don’t have access to good service and parts in your region.
