Top Upgrades in the 9th-Generation Toyota Hilux
1. Bold "Tough X Agile" Design Philosophy
The 2026 Hilux sheds its old look for a sharper, more aggressive stance inspired by the latest Land Cruiser range. The front fascia features an upright nose, a body-colored honeycomb mesh grille, and retro-styled bold "TOYOTA" lettering instead of a standard badge. Slim, multi-projector LED headlights with sharp boomerang-shaped DRLs complete the aggressive look.
2. Premium, Tech-Laden Cabin
Step inside, and you are greeted by a completely revamped dashboard layout. The traditional analog setup makes way for dual 12.3-inch screens: one serves as the fully digital driver’s display, while the other is a floating touchscreen infotainment system featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
3. 48V Mild-Hybrid Efficiency
For the first time in India, Toyota is pairing the proven 2.8-liter diesel engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system (similar to the Fortuner Neo Drive). This setup uses a belt-integrated starter generator and a lithium-ion battery. It delivers smoother low-speed performance, quieter engine starts, and better fuel economy through regenerative braking and idle auto start-stop.
4. Upgraded Safety & Level 2 ADAS
Safety gets a massive boost with a comprehensive camera-and-radar-based Level 2 ADAS suite. Drivers get adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. Additional safety gear includes seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a Blind View Monitor.
5. Better Ride and Handling
Toyota has added electric power steering to improve low-speed maneuverability in tight city spots while minimizing harsh steering vibrations (kickback) during extreme off-roading. Enhanced chassis rigidity also suppresses cabin vibrations for a much smoother highway ride.
