Hyundai Verna (2023-26) Vs Honda City eHev FAQs

The Hyundai Verna ex-showroom price starts at about ₹11.07 lakh for the base EX petrol MT variant and goes up to ₹17.58 lakh for the top SX (O) 1.5 Turbo Petrol DCT Dual Tone variant.

The Verna comes with petrol engine options of 1497 cc (1.5 L) and 1482 cc in certain variants. It offers both manual and automatic transmissions including CVT, IVT or DCT depending on the variant. Mileage (ARAI claimed) is around 18.6-20.6 kmpl for the petrol versions.

Hyundai Verna measures approximately 4,535 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width and has a wheelbase of about 2,670 mm. Boot space is 528 litres, which is among the largest in its sedan class. Ground clearance is 170 mm. Fuel tank capacity is around 45 litres.

Verna has a strong safety kit: six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors and camera, vehicle stability management (VSM). In its SX 1.5 Petrol MT variant and others, there are also features like ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Buy Verna if you want a dependable mid-size sedan with comfort, premium features, big boot, powerful options (turbo / DCT), and you do a lot of highway driving. It’s also good for semi-luxury feel without going to high luxury brands. Avoid Verna if most of your driving is very stop-start city traffic and you need minimal maintenance + fuel cost, or if you want something very compact.

The “Tubelight Verna” meme comes from people joking about the continuous or stretched LED light bar in the front. Some love the modern look, others tease it as something that looks like a glowing fluorescent tube

Assuming petrol price = ₹102 per litre and claimed mileage ~ 20 kmpl, running cost is: 102÷20≈₹5.10 per km In city traffic real world, if mileage drops to ~12–14 kmpl, cost can go up to ₹7.30-₹8.50 per km depending on variant and driving style.

The latest generation Verna (with its LED light bar rear, updated design, etc.) was launched around March 2023.

The Honda City e:HEV, also known as the City Hybrid, is priced at ₹19.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. It was launched in April 2022 and is sold as the top-end tech-loaded variant of the City lineup.

Honda City e:HEV has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 26.5 kmpl, which is significantly higher than the regular Honda City petrol that offers around 18 kmpl. With its 40-litre fuel tank, the City e:HEV can cover close to 840 km on a full tank, making it one of the most fuel-efficient sedans in its class.

If petrol is taken at ₹102 per litre, running a regular Honda City petrol (18 kmpl) costs about ₹5.66 per km. The Honda City e:HEV, with 26.5 kmpl, brings that down to about ₹3.85 per km. That’s a saving of almost ₹2 per km. If you drive 1,000 km a month, the hybrid could save you around ₹2,000 monthly on fuel.

Honda City e:HEV measures 4.583 m in length (15.04 ft), 1.748 m in width (5.73 ft), and 1.489 m in height (4.88 ft) with a wheelbase of 2.6 m (8.53 ft). Ground clearance is 165 mm, and boot space is slightly reduced to 306 litres because of the hybrid battery pack. That still fits about 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags, making it enough for a family weekend trip.

The Honda City e:HEV is a strong hybrid, not a mild hybrid. It comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors and an e-CVT gearbox. Unlike the regular Honda City, which relies purely on petrol, the hybrid can drive short distances in pure EV mode, switch to hybrid drive in the city, and use engine drive on highways. It also gets extra features like Honda Sensing ADAS, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and regenerative braking, which the standard City petrol does not offer.

If your daily usage is high, especially in city traffic, the Honda City e:HEV makes sense because of its lower running cost and smoother drive. It’s also attractive for buyers who want the latest safety features like ADAS. However, if you drive less than 500 km a month or mostly do highway runs, the regular Honda City petrol is more cost-effective upfront since it is cheaper by a big margin.
