Toyota is gearing up to launch a rugged, boxy new model that could mark a nostalgic yet futuristic shift in its lineup. While details are still emerging, reports suggest this retro-inspired vehicle may be fully electric—and could even share its platform with the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, a compact SUV co-developed with Suzuki.

Shared Platform Strategy: Toyota & Suzuki’s Electric Partnership

The Urban Cruiser EV, set to debut in 2nd half of 2025, is built on a joint Toyota-Suzuki EV platform that also underpins the Suzuki eVitara. This collaboration allows both automakers to share development costs while delivering distinct vehicles tailored to their brand identities.

If Toyota’s new boxy EV does share this architecture, we can expect:

  • Two battery options (49kWh and 61kWh)

  • Up to 500 km (311 miles) of range

  • Front-wheel and all-wheel-drive variants

With this potential boxy EV and the Urban Cruiser EV, Toyota is signaling a dual strategy:

  • Collaborative efficiency – Partnering with Suzuki to accelerate EV development.

  • Nostalgia meets innovation – Reviving classic designs with zero-emission power.

As the auto industry shifts toward electrification, Toyota’s blend of retro styling and modern tech could give it a unique edge.
