Published On 13/12/2024, 6:29:49 pm Author Nitesh YadavThe midsize SUV segment has a few players in the top 10, with Creta ruling the space. However, another contender stands strong—despite its naturally aspirated engine—by staying true to the iconic "kitna deti hai" promise.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, retailed through the premium Nexa channel, has truly redefined perceptions about Maruti's SUV lineup. It retains the iconic "kitna deti hai" fuel-efficiency focus while delivering impressive safety features and performance, even with added weight. Together with the Fronx, it has broken Maruti's long-standing stereotype of being a budget-focused, fuel-efficient tin can car brand.
The Grand Vitara’s success story speaks volumes. By November 2024, the midsize SUV achieved a milestone of 2,50,000 units in cumulative wholesales. Notably, it reached 2,00,000 units by July 2024 and sold an additional 50,000 in just over four months. The SUV also became the fastest in its segment to hit the 2,50,000-unit mark, outperforming its closest rival, the Hyundai Creta, by achieving this milestone three months earlier. Its monthly sales remain strong, with 10,148 units sold in November 2024.
Why Are People Loving the Grand Vitara?
The Grand Vitara stands out for its versatility and features that resonate with Indian buyers:
Efficiency Without Compromise: The Grand Vitara combines fuel efficiency with power. The mild-hybrid variant’s 1.5L engine offers a mileage of around 18-20 kmpl, which is remarkable for a car in this segment. The strong hybrid variant takes it up a notch, boasting a claimed efficiency of 27.97 kmpl.
Space and Comfort: Designed to comfortably accommodate five adults, the Grand Vitara excels in offering ample legroom and headroom. The premium interiors complement the spacious design, making it ideal for long journeys.
Packed Features at Great Value: Maruti has loaded the Grand Vitara with features that are often missing in its competitors. For instance, cruise control is available from the Delta variant itself, a rarity in this price range.
Safety First: While being fuel-efficient, the Grand Vitara doesn’t compromise on safety. Its build quality, along with Maruti’s evolving focus on safety standards, has made it a trusted choice for families. While it is not tested globally but if tested, it is estimated to score at par with Brezza i.e atleast 4 star NCAP rating.
The Only Gripe: Naturally Aspirated Engine
Some buyers feel the naturally aspirated engine lacks the punch offered by turbocharged options in rival models. However, the car’s overall package—stellar mileage, hybrid performance, and refined driving dynamics—more than makes up for it.
