New Tata Car 2025 – This SUV Spotted Testing on Indian Roads

Back in 1991, when Tata introduced a luxury 2-door SUV, it was a symbol of exclusivity. The Tata Sierra was what the Toyota Fortuner is today—an aspirational, premium SUV that turned heads. At a time when India's SUV market had limited choices, Sierra stood out as a bold, futuristic offering. However, practicality was a challenge. Its 2-door design wasn’t ideal for Indian families, and Tata’s own Safari, launched later, ate into its sales. Eventually, Sierra was discontinued, fading into nostalgia. But now, it’s making a comeback, blending its legendary heritage with modern-day practicality.
The Tata Sierra has been showcased at the Auto Expo thrice since 2020—once as a concept in 2020, then in 2023 and again in 2025 with a near-production design.
In 2025, it seems Tata is taking a careful approach, ensuring it doesn’t mess with Sierra’s heritage the way it did with the Safari. While the new Safari is doing fairly well, the old one was the true OG, known for its rugged appeal and cult following. Unlike Safari’s drastic transformation, Tata appears committed to retaining Sierra’s legacy. Recently, the SUV was spotted testing, confirming that its launch is on track for late 2025.
Tata Sierra 1.5 L Petrol: New Option
Tata didn’t go all-electric with the Sierra, instead offering both ICE and EV options, making it more accessible to a wider audience. The exciting part is that Tata has never had a 1.5L turbo-petrol engine before, and Sierra will debut with it. This fills a crucial gap in Tata’s lineup, as the brand had no direct competitor to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, or Maruti Grand Vitara. With the Sierra, Tata seems ready to challenge the segment, blending nostalgia with modern performance.
