MG Motor India has introduced the Battery as a Service (BaaS) program for its entire electric lineup, which now includes the Comet EV and ZS EV. This innovative subscription model allows buyers to reduce the initial acquisition cost by renting the battery on a pay-as-usage basis, making EV ownership more affordable. With battery rental costs starting at ₹2.5/km for the Comet and ₹4.5/km for the ZS, this option offers flexibility for users who are concerned about high upfront costs.
BaaS has already seen success with the Windsor EV, and its extension to the Comet and ZS EVs is expected to further drive EV adoption in India. This new model of ownership gives consumers the freedom to manage their costs more effectively while enjoying an assured 60% buyback after three years of use.
The buyback option offers you a guaranteed resale value for your electric vehicle after a specified period, ensuring financial security when you decide to sell it. This allows you to minimize the depreciation loss over time and gives a clear exit strategy for EV owners.
Suppose you own a Comet EV under the BaaS model, and after 2.5 years of usage, you decide it’s time for a new vehicle. With the 60% buyback option, you can return your vehicle to MG, and the company will buy it back at 60% of the original value. This ensures that your vehicle holds its value, and you don't have to worry about market fluctuations or private sales. The buyback option makes EV ownership more affordable and flexible, encouraging more users to transition to electric vehicles with confidence.
