Kia has been testing the much-awaited Kia Carens EV, an all-electric version of its well-known three-row MPV. Set to launch in 2025, the Carens EV aims to reshape the affordable 7-seater electric vehicle market in India. The expected price range is between ₹18 lakh and ₹25 lakh, depending on the variant.

India’s electric vehicle market is about to witness a revolution with the upcoming Kia Carens EV. As the first affordable 7-seater electric MPV in the country, it promises to combine practicality, competitive pricing, and a strong driving range. This much-anticipated model is set to create a new benchmark for family-friendly EVs, addressing a segment that remains largely unexplored.

Recently it was spotted seen being road tested with Creta EV. Kia Carens EV Tested

Kia Carens EV Expected Specs

Kia Carens side view Kia plans to offer the Carens EV with an expected range of 400-500 km, putting it in competition with models like the Mahindra XUV.e9, Tata Curvv EV, and BE.6. While these are all 5-seater SUVs, the Carens EV stands out with its 7-seater MPV design. Hyundai’s Creta EV, offering over 460 km of range, sets the standard in this price range, but the Carens EV’s seating capacity make it unique.

It is seen as a competitor to the Ertiga, making it an ideal choice for large families who travel frequently or need extra space. Its combination of range, practicality, and fast-charging features makes it suitable for those who prioritize comfort and convenience on outstation trips.

The Kia Carens EV is expected to share its platform with other successful Kia models, most likely the Kia EV6 or the Hyundai Creta EV platform. Since Kia and Hyundai are sister companies, such platform sharing would help streamline development and costs. However, while Hyundai is focused on SUVs and may introduce an electric version of the Alcazar in the future, the Carens EV’s MPV body style gives it a distinct edge in practicality and family-oriented usability.

Carens EV Expected Range

The Carens EV is likely to feature 42-51 kWh battery packs, ensuring a balanced range of 400-500 km on a full charge. These configurations will also support fast-charging capabilities, making it suitable for long-distance travel and reducing downtime during charging.

Carens EV expected market positioning

The Kia Carens EV is expected to carve out a unique space in the Indian EV market by targeting families and users who prioritize 7-seater practicality. While many may compare it to models like the Creta EV or Tata Curvv EV, its closest competition is likely the MG Windsor, an MPV-like EV that offers luxury seating for five.

The MG Windsor has already established itself as a go-to choice for those seeking a premium electric ride under ₹20 lakh, outpacing the sales of popular models like the Tata Nexon EV. Its success proves there is a growing demand for versatile, spacious EVs that combine comfort with practicality. However, the Windsor’s 5-seater layout leaves room for the Kia Carens EV to step in as the only 7-seater option in this segment.

Kia’s reputation as a reliable EV manufacturer, bolstered by the success of the Kia EV6, gives the Carens EV a significant advantage. Buyers who trust Kia for its quality and performance in the EV space are likely to see the Carens EV as a practical and dependable choice for large families or frequent travelers.
