BMW's initial entry into the Indian market with the iX1 was as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit, which significantly increased its price due to import duties. CBU vehicles in India are subject to high import taxes, making them less affordable for consumers.

The BMW iX1 LWB features an extended wheelbase compared to the standard iX1, providing additional interior space and enhanced comfort for passengers. This design modification caters to the preferences of Indian consumers who value spacious interiors in their vehicles.

The BMW iX1 LWB features an extended wheelbase compared to the standard iX1, providing additional interior space and enhanced comfort for passengers. The standard iX1 has a wheelbase of 2,692 mm, while the LWB version extends to 2,800 mm, resulting in a 108 mm increase. This will give ample of room for rear passengers to recline their seat.

With a rear seat recline of up to 28.5 degrees and best-in-class legroom, rear passengers can enjoy a relaxed and smooth journey. he vehicle offers 490 liters of boot space, expandable to 1,600 liters with the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats, accommodating various storage needs.

BMW iX1 LWB Price

The BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) is priced at ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. In contrast, the standard BMW iX1, imported as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit, was priced at ₹66.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. This results in a significant price difference of ₹17.90 lakh between the two models. Enough to accomodate a Windsor EV too!

India imposes import duties on electric vehicles (EVs) to protect and promote its domestic automotive industry. The standard import duty for Completely Built-Up (CBU) EVs is 70%, which can increase to 100% for vehicles priced above $40,000. In March 2024, the Indian government introduced a policy to reduce the import duty to 15% for EVs with a minimum cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) value of $35,000 and above. This reduction is conditional upon manufacturers committing to local production and achieving a 50% localization of components within five years.
